Yuk Cheong Mah

Mah, Yuk Cheong (Ben, Benny)
In Loving Memory

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Yuk Cheong Mah on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Wellbrook Place, long term care facility, Mississauga, Ontario. He was 90 years old, passing peacefully and surrounded by close family in his final days. Beloved husband of Sau Ying. Cherished father of Brenda (Tibor), Barbara and Bill (Dana). He will be dearly missed by his 7 grandchildren, Maia, Skye, Cameron, Noah, Lorelai, Bradley and Brayden.

Yuk was born in Taishan, China in 1933. At 18 years of age, he came to Canada, living in Blairmore and Calgary, Alberta. He eventually moved to San Francisco, California to live with his siblings and attend school. Yuk came back to Canada, settling in Toronto where he met his wife, Sau Ying.

He and his wife lived a humble life, renting out almost every room in their first home in order to pay off their mortgage. Yuk was hard working and talented in the kitchen. He worked many years learning the craft of cooking and eventually led kitchens as a chef in several restaurants, in addition to making elaborate dinners for his family every night.

Yuk had many interests and hobbies. He was a passionate Toronto Maple Leafs fan and a keen photographer. He was an avid gardener and overall handyman, always working on home improvement, including building a finished basement on his own. Yuk enjoyed hosting large dinner parties for family and friends. He loved to sing and play the harmonica. Yuk loved to travel, visiting many cities in Canada, the United States and Asia. He served as chair of the Mah Society of Ontario.

Yuk will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on through his family: Brenda, a talented artist and Tibor, a successful technology business owner; Barbara a former TV production manager and current TDSB office staff; and Bill, an elementary school principal and Dana, a teacher. His grandchildren are all successful students; Maia and Cameron are in University; Skye, Noah and Lorelai are in high school, Bradley in grade 8, and his youngest grandchild Brayden, is in daycare.

A private funeral service and interment will be held at York Cemetery on February 3rd, 2024.

Condolences may be made by signing the guestbook.

So very sorry for your loss. From what Bill has shared and what I have read here, he was a great man. From what I have learned about Bill in our short time working together - he has learned from his father - another great man.

May your father's memory always be a blessing to you and your family.
