Dr. Yuen Ching, a beloved mother, grandmother, and esteemed medical professional, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2024, in Toronto, Canada, at the age of 90.
Born on May 10, 1934, in Wuhan, China, Yuen dedicated her life to medicine and education. She began her journey in the medical field at a prominent medical school in China, eventually becoming a respected medical pathologist and returning to teach at the same university. Her career flourished in Hong Kong, where she practiced as a licensed doctor and medical practitioner for most of her life. Yuen was known for her unwavering commitment to her students, her passion for educating future generations of medical professionals, as well as her relentless effort in bettering the lives of her patients and helping those in her community.
Yuen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Sio Hong Io. She is survived by her children, Ian Io, Ida Io and Roxana Io. Her legacy lives on through her 7 grandchildren: Michelle Io, Isabella Io, William Io, Shirley Chiu, Michael Chiu, Natalie Tam and Eric Tam.
Beyond her professional achievements, Yuen was a devoted family member who wholeheartedly supported, encouraged, and celebrated her loved ones. Her passion for storytelling and teaching made a profound impact on those around her.
A private memorial service will be held at York Cemetery, Toronto, on September 30, 2024, where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband.
Yuen’s kindness, dedication, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
