In memory of

Ying Han Hong

September 14, 1933 -  October 13, 2020

Ying Han Hong passed peacefully at the age of 87 on October 13th, 2020 in Toronto, Ontario.
She was born in Toishan, Guangdong on September 14th, 1933 (lunar date July 25). Her family operated a grain mill and published a county newspaper. She became a music teacher in a nearby village where she met her late husband Ton Saing (Tony) Hong. She moved to Hong Kong with her family in the 1950’s. Following the footsteps of her grandfather and older brother, she moved to the “Gold Mountain” in 1960. She joined her fiancé in Fredericton, New Brunswick, married and started a family. She kept the Chinese values and traditions alive and instilled them in her children and those near and dear to her. After her husband’s passing, she moved to Toronto, Ontario where she enjoyed the urban diversity and helped raise her grandchildren. Even as her memory was declining, children and music brought her immense joy.
She loved and was loved. Ying was the wife of the late Ton Saing (Tony) Hong. She is survived by her children Kenneth (Barbara) of Fredericton and Angela Gee Spinney (Blair) of Toronto; grandchildren Jadrien, Thomas and Quinlyn Hong and Stewart and Colin Spinney; great-grandchildren Xavier and Levi; three siblings and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the team at the Seniors Health Centre, North York.
A gathering of remembrance will be held at 10:00 Saturday, October 17th at Pine Hills Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough. If desired, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or charity of choice.
