In memory of

Yau Hing Fong

May 18, 1929 -  May 25, 2024

My dad, Yau Hing Fong, was born in China in 1929. He went to school and spent his early childhood in China. Due to the civil war and unrest, he moved to Hong Kong as a young teenager. From there he started working as a line cook in the food and beverage industry. He eventually became a sous chef after learning the culinary arts in a Western-style restaurant.

He got married in 1960 and had one daughter with his wife. From his only daughter, he was also gifted with two grandchildren. He was a very kind and hardworking family man. After work, he did a lot of the house work and took good care of my mom and I. It was him who taught me what a good father should be.

He retired in 1996 and helped to look after the two grandchildren with my mom. My parents immigrated to Toronto in 1999. He had a carefree retirement and often went on trips with my mom, whether it’d be on vacation, cruises or even going for high tea. Both he and my mom were baptized in 2006 and they have since continued to follow the path of Christianity and the Lord.

In the last four years after two accidental falls, he could no longer walk and had to be on a wheelchair. Sadly due to dementia, he was placed into long-term care since September 2022. In the past few months, he became anorexic, became physically weak and slept constantly. He peacefully passed in the arms of the Lord in his sleep. He was 95 years old.

My dad used to cook all the food for various gatherings and family events. They were very delicious and well known within our social circles. We all miss him dearly, and hope he will rest forever in peaceful slumber.
