In memory of

雷溢泉先生 Michael Yat Chuen Lui

April 24, 1946 -  December 30, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Yat Chuen Lui after a lengthy battle with heart disease. Michael passed away peacefully at the age of 77, with family by his side at Birchmount Hospital in Toronto.

Michael is predeceased by beloved wife, Betty Yuk Wah Tam. He is survived by his three devoted children Kenneth (Cindy), Gloria (Rik) and Jennifer (Paul), and by his much adored grandchildren Jeremy, Jack, Julia, Scott, Jason, and Joshua. Michael is the respected eldest brother of Annie, Candy, Frankie, Sammi, Bonnie, and Gregory, and predeceased by his elder sister Yuet Wah.

Michael was born in Macao, China. As the eldest son in his family, he took on a paternal role with his siblings and supported them during their family’s humble beginnings, sacrificing his own education. He subsequently immigrated to Hong Kong in his teens, then to Toronto, Canada in his early twenties with his young family. He enjoyed soccer, swimming, playing mahjong, listening to Cantopop music, and watching Chinese period TV shows and movies.

During his lifetime, Michael loved being a business owner - together with his wife Betty and the support of his 3 children, he established a Chinese video store, three Chinese bakeries and four Chinese restaurants from the period of the 1980’s through to the 2010’s. The businesses were his pride and joy, and enjoyed booming business in their heyday. He poured his heart and soul into the businesses which was recognized and appreciated by all his customers.

We will miss him more than words can say.

Special thanks to the medical staff, nurses, and doctors at the ER, ICU (intensive care), and CCU (coronary care) units of the Scarborough Health Network Birchmount Hospital for the kindness, empathy, and compassion they gave to Michael and our family during his numerous hospital stays.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tribute donations can be made to the Scarborough Health Network Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Mon Sheong Foundation. (Donation link is provided below)

Our family would like to thank you again for your prayers, sympathy and kindness.
