In memory of

Yat-Ching Lau - 劉逸清先生安息

August 13, 1930 -  May 7, 2023

Mr. Yat-Ching Lau passed away in Scarborough, Ontario on May 7 at the age of 92. Born in Shantou, China, he grew up with his younger sister and brother in an extended family of four uncles and their families. His family ran a premium health food business in the city northeast of the Guangdong Province. He lost his father to illness when he was only a child. His mother moved them to Hong Kong where he started work in a hardware store. His employer appreciated and valued his honesty and sincerity in dealing with customers. With the employer’s support, he opened his own small hardware store in Mongkok, Kowloon. In 1973, he emigrated to Canada with his wife and children, and he continued in the hardware business. The store he founded is being run by his partner’s family and it is still known for its honesty and sincerity. Mr. Lau always spoke proudly of the trust he had earned from his customers. He is survived by his wife Yin-Fong, son Jonathan, daughter Anna (and her husband Samson) and his grandson (Aspen).

與舅父同住幾年直至他結婚,成家立室,我也來了加拿大讀書,仍然保留著很多香港生活的回憶。舅父去了一個美好又安樂的地方。

Treasure the time we lived together in Hong Kong. Some of the memorable moments remain vivid as if they happened not too long ago. You have travelled a path of hardship and challenges. You managed to make the best of what you have been given. We know you are now in a far far better place.

Dear Aunty 2, Jon, Anna and all the family,
We are so sad to hear about Uncle 2’s passing, but at the same time we rejoice knowing that he had a long life and most importantly, knew and loved our Lord and Saviour. We look forward to the time when God wipes away every tear and death shall be no more (Rev 21:4), and we are all reunited in heaven.
Although we haven’t had much opportunity to spend with your family, I still recall grandma telling us about how much Uncle 2 loved his dog back in the 1990s I think it was. Greng used to laugh at how much Uncle 2 pampered and adored your dog! It clearly demonstrated to us how caring and how big Uncle 2’s heart was.
We know you will miss him, but we hope you find comfort knowing that he lives on through each of you.
Sending you lots of love, hugs and prayers,
Jackie, Jared, Caitlin and Hayley

Anna, Samson and Aspen, heartfelt condolences to you and of course to your mother and brother as well. It has been a long and arduous journey for your dad and your family. He is now thankfully at rest. I loved reading about your dad’s more exciting but no less arduous earlier life!
