In memory of

Yam Kwong Tom

June 18, 1932 -  February 19, 2025

Yam Kwong Tom, 92, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Canton, China, in 1932, Yam Kwong was instilled with a strong work ethic from a young age. At just 17, he left his home to join his father in Canada, a move that would set the course for his life. After settling in Ontario, he pursued a career in the culinary arts, initially working as a chef before opening his own restaurant—a dream he realized through dedication and hard work.

In 1970, after years of building his career, Yam Kwong traveled to Hong Kong to visit his mother. It was there that fate brought him together with Mei Sim Cheang, the love of his life. Their bond was immediate, and they married soon after. They shared 53 years filled with love, joy, and mutual respect, building a beautiful life together.

Yam Kwong was a proud and devoted family man, survived by his children Jerry, Jana, and Jade, and his cherished grandchildren Nathan, Emerson, Jasmine, Jessie, Skyler, and Ryder, all of whom will hold his memory close. He was known for his generosity, warmth, and boundless hospitality—traits that left a lasting legacy of love and kindness.

In addition to his family, Yam Kwong was passionate about food and hockey, with a special fondness for his beloved Montreal Canadiens. He also enjoyed traveling, reading, playing Mahjong, and spending time with friends having afternoon coffee at the mall. His zest for life, combined with his cheerful and welcoming spirit, touched all who knew him.

His legacy of love, hard work, and generosity will remain in the hearts of his family and friends for years to come.

Rest in peace, Your love and dedication will never be forgotten.

Dear Uncle Tom,

Thank you very much for all your love towards our family. Without your help, my brothers and I would not have the chance to come to Canada, which changed and blessed the rest of our lives.

Whenever we met, you would feed us with all the good food you could find in Toronto. I know you always want to bless us the best you could, either in town or in life. For that I say thank you again!

I am so comforted by your sincere trust and baptism in the saving gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ when I visited you and Aunt in 2023. That's the eternal blessing no one can offer on earth except Jesus the incarnated, crucified and resurrected Son of God. May you rest in peace in the arms of our Lord Jesus and will see you again in heaven when Jesus returns!

Dear Jana, Edmund and Family,

We are deeply saddened to hear of your father's passing. While we never had the honor of meeting him, it is clear that he lived a long and full life, and his greatest legacy is the wonderful family he raised. Knowing you, Jana, is a testament to the kind of man he was, and we have no doubt he was incredibly proud of you.

Please know that our hearts and thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. While we regret that we cannot be there for the funeral, as we will be out of town with Shalene and family as well as my parents, Sheila and Steve, please know that we are with you in spirit.

We hope that, in time, your sorrow will be eased by the beautiful memories you shared with him. Wishing you strength, comfort and peace in the days ahead.

With our deepest condolences,

Szeto Family (Sylvia, Ray, Carson, Zoe), Yeung Family (Shalene, Andrew, Chloe, Lucie), Sheila and Steve Wong
