Jack was born on July 19, 1924 in Canton, China, and worked most of his life as a chef. He immigrated to Canada on his own in 1952, leaving behind his family of five in Hong Kong with the goal of one day bringing them over for a better life. In 1958, after years of hard work, he was eventually able to save enough money, allowing him to reunite his family in Canada. He lived in the heart of Chinatown in Toronto, enjoying long walks, whether that be browsing the produce along Spadina or browsing the aisles in Walmart and Loblaws. One would describe Jack as a happy, respectful and selfless man, willing to help anyone he could. He truly loved his family and they unconditionally loved him back. Jack lived a full and accomplished life with much to be proud of before passing peacefully on April 30, 2017. He was 92 years old. Jack is survived by his spouse Shing Yi, his four siblings (two brothers and two sisters), and his five children, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, who will all miss him dearly.

I will always remember your warm smile the very first time I saw you at the airport when we arrived in Canada. Thank you for inspiring me to become a father - I hope I become half the man that you are. I will miss you.
