In memory of
Winston Lloyd Buckley
November 3, 1943 -
November 30, 2017
Winston Lloyd "Isaac" Buckley passed away at Toronto General Hospital, on Thursday, November 30, 2017. He died peacefully in his sleep, at the age of 74 years, from complications due to leukaemia.
On November 3, 1943, Winston was born to Ms. Louise Buckley in Kingston, Jamaica, and raised by his maternal grandparents. As a young man Winston experienced the world by sea. Eventually, his wandering spirit brought him to Toronto, Canada, where he then planted roots.
In the late 1960’s, Winston, dubbed "Isaac" as he shared his likeness with the popular musician Isaac Hayes, quickly became a recognizable figure in Toronto's small-but-mighty Jamaican-Canadian community.
Although Toronto life was not always easy for Isaac or his family, he was blessed with an infectious charisma and a spirited hustle, which among other attributes, allowed him to carve out a unique life.
In body and soul, the legacy of Winston Lloyd "Isaac" Buckley is, undoubtedly, his many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren living in Canada, Jamaica, and the United States. While the memories may fade over time, the Buckley name will be carried forward to unite all those who claim it.
The Buckley Family would like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to the medical staff, who were tasked with providing medical and other care for their father, at both Princess Margaret and Toronto General hospitals. Likewise, Isaac’s family are grateful to the many friends and members of his church congregation for their support, prayer, and well-wishes.
