In memory of

William Victor Weiss

June 4, 1938 -  October 8, 2021

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the passing of my beloved husband Bill on October 8, 2021. Bill was a devoted father and grandpa, and an adoring husband to me. He was a very private man with a huge heart, wry wit and an infectious laugh. I have often had to tell people who didn’t know him well that Bill may not say much, but when he does choose to say something, it will be worth listening to.

My Bill was humble about his accomplishments in life, which were many. After receiving his degree in electrical engineering at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, he worked for Boeing in Seattle, training colonels on how to launch Minute Man Missiles. Bill did a stint at NASA where he wrote the specs for the life support monitoring system for the Gemini program. He decided to return to Canada and attend medical school at U of T and spent the rest of his career being a caring and brilliant diagnostician as a family and emergency medicine physician. He also found time to write a book about solutions to the health care system in Canada and get a patent for his research with colleagues at Sunnybrook Hospital.

Bill was a man of many interests and talents. He read voraciously and invented amusing words that became part of our family lexicon; He loved music, from Bach Cantatas to Kenny Loggins, was an excellent skier, and enjoyed his many years as a member of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club. Bill loved our farm and the opportunities it gave him to drive around in his tractor, play games with the family and fly his model airplanes. He had every tool imaginable, including a full welding shop. He could fix anything and did. But he could not fix the Parkinson’s Disease that took its toll over the past several years.

The family is grateful for the loving care Bill received at the Meaford Hospital and at Meighen Manor during these last difficult months.

Rest in peace my darling.

Dear Florence. Both Andrea and I are saddened to hear about Bill's passing. In the short time that we knew him, we found him to be fascinating with a great sense of humour. It's too bad that we didn't get to know him better. May you be comforted with all the great memories you and Bill had together! We will be in touch!!
