In memory of
William Tang
January 8, 1945 -
October 16, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved William (Bill) Wai Lun Tang, who at age 76, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Toronto General Hospital. Bill fought a long and courageous battle with liver cancer, having overcome many obstacles so as to enjoy and make the best of his last years.
Bill will be deeply missed by his devoted wife Ellen, his son Tim, his daughter and her husband, Vera & Tyler Goodwin, his two grandchildren Connor & Talia, his sister and her husband, Anna & Derek Hynes and their son Michael.
Bill was born in 1945 in Chung King, China. His family moved to Hong Kong when he was 5. Bill studied Engineering at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He immigrated to Canada in 1967 in search of a better life. Many family members benefitted by following Bill and Ellen to Canada, as the eldest siblings in each of their respective families. With an ambitious work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit, Bill enjoyed success in small business ownership, engineering, property development/project management, business investment and finally a thriving electrical contracting business, now run by his son Tim.
Without organ donation, Bill would not have been with us for as long as he was. Our family is especially grateful for the Organ Donation Program, Dr. Lilly from his transplant team, Dr. Knox his oncologist, Dr. Hannon his palliative care doctor and Dr. Clara Chan, his friend and advisor and the dedicated team at Princess Margaret Hospital and Toronto General Hospital.
We respectfully ask that you please consider helping to save a life through registering here https://www.ontario.ca/page/organ-and-tissue-donor-registration for organ donation or through your local authority. In lieu of flowers, donations to Princess Margaret Hospital are also appreciated in Bill’s honour.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Funeral Service for William will be held by invitation only. For those who wish to virtually attend the Funeral Service, a livestream link will be available at the top of this page at 11:45 am on Sunday, October 24, 2021. Your understanding is greatly appreciated.
