In memory of
William Mon Ying Hung
February 1, 1929 -
April 10, 2023
William passed away peacefully on Monday, April 10, 2023. He will be greatly missed by his two daughters, Emily (Chris) and Mona (Jonathan) and by the grandchildren he adored: Damian, Madeline, Alasdair and Aidan. He will also be greatly missed by his sister Kam Shun Chow (Ming Git) and his many nieces and nephews and their children.
William was born and raised in Tai Chong, Kwong Dong, China. After losing his father in 1945, William sailed to New York City to start a new life. Determined to sponsor his mother and two sisters, he educated himself while working. Years later, William made his way to New Liskeard, Ontario, and eventually Toronto where he met his wife Jean.
Raising his two daughters, William lived a life of perseverance and dedication. Even though he worked night shifts with Canada Post for 18 years, he still found the energy and time to give his family the best of everything. His daughters, and their friends, fondly remember skating at City Hall, playing with the geese at Ontario Place, rides at the CNE, parading in Lantern Festivals and more.
After his retirement, William remained committed to his long walks at dawn, practicing tai chi in the park or his backyard and joining his wife to swim at the local community centre several times a week. They even enrolled in ballroom dance lessons and practiced at home for their bi-annual cruises all over Europe and the Caribbean, which they often took with friends and enjoyed immensely.
William continued his lifelong passion of gardening past the age of 90 and was immensely proud of his green thumb. His family and friends happily enjoyed his generous annual harvest of tomatoes, string beans, bitter melon, winter melon, chives, bok choy and zucchini.
William will join his loving wife of 50 years, Jean, in heaven. He will also be reunited with his sister Kam Shiu Ng and his parents Yick Kit Hung and Ming Yuet Lee.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of William are asked to consider the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario.
