In memory of

William Horton

November 5, 1939 -  May 5, 2022

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of William David Horton, age 82, in the early hours of May 5, 2022 after a brief battle with terminal cancer. ‘Bill’ was a loving husband to Mary, a great ‘Dad’ to David (Shannon), Diane and the late Anne-Marie (2017), and a wonderful ‘Opa’ to Ben and Charlotte Horton. ‘Billy’ was the cherished son of the late Bill and Winnie Horton and much-loved big brother to Beth (Bob) Winterbottom and Cathy Horton. He was ‘Bill/Uncle Bill’ to many nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Evelyn (the late Bill Neufeld) and the late Ernst (Helen) Peters. Bill is also survived by his aunts Bessie, Alice and Jean as well as many, many cousins.
Bill was employed in the petroleum industry and remained with his company throughout his 45-year career. After retirement, he became a volunteer with the Brampton Civic Hospital and reported for duty another 20 years until the pandemic forced him to stand down. He was also deeply involved with the Presbyterian Church and played the organ beautifully each Sunday. While he lived in London, he conducted the youth choir and played piano for the “Reach Out” choir when they travelled to other churches.

He saved his best efforts for his family, working selflessly and tirelessly to be of assistance to his parents, his siblings, his wife and children and grandchildren. He loved the boat that he and his dad made by hand and enjoyed taking his family camping with it. He loved his garden and enjoyed attracting birds while trying to out-fox the squirrels, rabbits and chipmunks.

Bill’s passing has left a big hole in the hearts of his family and friends. We extend thanks to the tremendous efforts put forward by the neurology, oncology and palliative departments at Brampton Civic Hospital and also to everyone from “Right at Home“, his team of Personal Service Workers.

Cremation has already taken place. A celebration of Bill’s life will take place at 2pm on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Meadowvale Funeral Centre.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Canadian Cancer Society or Claude Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.

Sincere condolences to Mary and extended families.
I was fortunate to have Bill train me as a volunteer with the Brampton Civic Hospital over 10 years ago.
Always looked forward to seeing his big smile as we exchanged shifts.
Well done Bill. Rest in peace.
