In memory of

William Edward Kostyk

May 8, 1938 -  February 19, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bill “Coach” Kostyk on February 19, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and inspiration that will be cherished by all who knew him. Bill is survived by his loving daughter Lindsay, devoted sons Adam, David, and Brandon, sister Mary Fedor, brother Ollie (Anne), and a host of nieces and nephews.

Bill lived each day with a positive attitude fuelled by optimism and the ability live in the present with a gratefulness for the small things in life. Even in his final days, when he was faced with illness, he remained courageous, and lived for each day where he continued to be surrounded by the warmth of family, engaging in cherished card games and great conversations.

A distinguished athlete, gifted teacher, and beloved coach, Bill dedicated his career to George Harvey Collegiate, where he nurtured and mentored thousands of students through his passion for athletics and teamwork. His impact extended far beyond the gymnasium, as he opened his office door to offer guidance and support to anyone in need. His commitment to the George Harvey community will be remembered by many generations of students and colleagues who were touched by his wisdom and kindness.

When he wasn’t coaching, Bill was an active sports enthusiast who excelled in basketball, tennis, and football. His infectious love for sports was matched only by his competitive spirit and unwavering passion, whether on the court, the field, or the sidelines. As the legendary "Coach," he inspired countless athletes to reach their full potential and instilled in them a love for the game that transcended the scoreboard.

In his later years, Bill will be fondly remembered for his devotion to his family, his boundless energy, and his constant reminder to those around him to “always keep moving”.

A celebration of Bill's remarkable life will be held on April 20, 2024 at the Safari Bar & Grill from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in memory of Bill be made to a charity of your choice. Bill will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the impact he made on the lives of those around him. May his memory be a blessing and his spirit live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

I didn’t have the pleasure of knowing Bill, but I have the pleasure of knowing his lovely daughter. I’m sure you are a reflection of his greatest attributes. I can only imagine how much he will be missed by all who knew him. Lots of love in this hard time.
