We are at a loss for words to describe the depths of our sadness for the passing of this great wordsmith William (Bill) Bruce Cowls. Bill died peacefully at home in his 88th year with family at his side on October 30, 2022. Bill was predeceased by his brothers John and David (Doris) and his sister Suzanne (Cam) Kitchen. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 61 years, Sylvia (nee Lemon); his son Bradley (Tanya); son Malcolm (Debbie); daughter Jocelyn (Tim); grandchildren Dylan, Hayley, Molly, Zac and Jordan; in-laws Kathy and Mike, Helen and Craig, Roz and Bill and Lisa.
Bill was a lover of nature, literature and his family. He enlightened and touched the hearts of many through teaching English and drama for more than 30 years or through volunteer work at the Toronto Zoo. He was a compassionate and loving soul to all who knew him. He was happiest on a canoe trip with Sylvia in Temagami, seeing a play at Stratford, or engaging with his
grandchildren in all their endeavours.
“Now cracks a noble heart. -Goodnight, sweet prince; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!” ~ William Shakespeare (Hamlet).
A private service will take place for a green burial. A ceremony of remembrance will take place in the future. Details to follow. In Bill’s memory donations may be made to the Nature Conservancy of Canada or the Toronto Zoo Wildlife Conservancy.
