In memory of

Wayne Harold Strike

April 6, 1944 -  October 14, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Wayne Harold Strike announces his sudden passing on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at the age of 74 years. Wayne will be lovingly remembered by his children, Tim (Shahrzad) and Tracy (Charles), and his dear friend and mother of his children, Leslie. Wayne will be fondly remembered by his four grandchildren, Abigail, Ava, Evelyn, and Arya, as well as members of his extended family and numerous good friends. Wayne is also survived by his loving and loyal Siberian Husky companion of 12 years Kee-Sa. Wayne was the only son of the late James Harold Strike and Dorothy Hughes.

Wayne cherished his time camping in his trailer with family, building a miniature model train world, playing piano and later guitar, watching his beloved Canadiens or CFL football, and collecting old western movies, books, comics, and radio serials. And, of course, he loved his cowboy hat and boots. He was forever a builder and tinkerer, always drawing, designing, planning and re-planning, building and modifying and re-envisioning the world his way.

The Celebration-of-Life is December 1, 2018 from 2-5PM at the Apricot Tree Cafe, 1900 Dundas Street West in Mississauga (in the Sherwood Forrest Village between Erin Mills Pkwy & Mississauga Road). Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Wayne to the Canadian Diabetes Association (https://www.diabetes.ca/donate).

Tim Strike (Son)

Entered October 20, 2018 from Toronto

My father had started a story (book) of his life, and unfortunately he passed away before he got a chance to complete his story. What follows are my fathers words, unfinished...
- Tim

1944-1950 Before Clarke City
The History:
I was born in Waterloo Quebec (not Ontario) on April 6, 1944. My middle name, Harold, was my father’s used name, though he was mostly called Hal. He was born James Harold Howard Strike in the Montreal area.

My mother was born Dorothy Kathleen Hughes in Toronto, Ontario, and later moved to Montreal with her family, where she met and later married my father in 1939. When my mother’s parents moved to Montreal, they lived in a house that later would be the house of a future Prime minister of Canada: his name was Pierre Eliot Trudeau. At one time, the current Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, also lived there.

When I was born, my parents lived in Fulford QC, and they actually lived on a small farm. The only picture I have found is of my mother’s dog.

Fulford is in an area one hour south of Montreal QC called the Eastern Townships. This area was prominent in future years: Granby, my second home is there; Brome lake, where my family vacationed for years is there; the cottage that we visited and rebuilt was there, until we moved to Mississauga in 1983.

1951-1961 Clarke City
The History:
My father worked for Minor Rubber Company in Granby QC before I was born, and the company, which produced rubber boots, amongst other things, changed to produce items to support the 2nd World War. When the war ended, the company tried to go back to non-war related production...
