It is with profound sadness that the Young family announces the passing of our beloved husband and father Wayne Young. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the age of 78.
Wayne was a devoted husband to Lucia, and loving father to Stephen, Matthew, and Michelle. He was also an amazing brother, brother in-law, uncle, great uncle, grand uncle, friend, and neighbour.
Wayne immigrated to Canada at the age of seven in 1955 with his mother (Jean), his sister (Lois), and cousin (Jimmy). He settled and grew up in Parry Sound being academically studious during the day and working hard at the family restaurant, Victory Cafe, after school. He moved to Toronto during his high school years and attended Malvern Collegiate Institute where he grew his passion for music (he played the cornet) and playing sports (track & field and football). He then went on to meet many of his life-long friends while studying Business at Waterloo and the University of Toronto, and working at TransCanada Pipelines, Ontario Hydro, and HydroOne.
Wayne had a deep love for the Moody Blues, The Carpenters, Barry Manilow, and Elvis. He was an avid sports fan for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Argonauts, and Toronto Blue Jays. He loved all the James Bond films, Superman films, Elvis Presley films, the 1980 Shogun TV Mini-Series, MASH, Dallas, Three’s Company, Smallville. He was fond of fishing (co-created his fishing company Lite-Bait), being an aquarium hobbyist, travelling (especially road trips), and most importantly, he immensely enjoyed being the chef either barbecuing steak and chicken wings or cooking his famous roast beef and gravy, roasted turkey, lobster, shrimp with minced pork, homemade wontons, sweet and sour chicken, his popular cheesecake with strawberries, and so much more.
His life was devoted to his family, friends, and neighbours. He was always there to open his home for people to stay over, made sure everyone was well fed and had extra food to take home, and was there if you needed advice or to chit-chat. He always thought of others before himself, and he especially loved to spoil all the little ones with candy and treats. Most importantly, he adored and supported his loving wife and children in everything they did. He was the kind of father who showed his love not always in words, but in actions. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love. We will miss you!
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the family at the visitation. All donations will be made in Memory of Wayne Allan Young to the Scarborough Health Network Foundation and the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Toronto.
