In memory of

Walter Nicoli

March 12, 1933 -  September 8, 2021

We honour the life of Walter Nicoli who died on September 8, 2021, age 88. Born in Copper Cliff, Walter was the second son of Elsa and Guiseppe Nicoli. He is survived by four siblings Derio of South Delta, B.C., Mema Buchan of Guelph, Nello (Alice) of Nepean and Nella Ubriaco (Gene) of Melrose Park, Illinois. He will be laid to rest at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Sudbury with his parents and younger brother Richard at a future date.
Walter suffered trauma at birth which created many life challenges for him. He had to leave home as a teenager and lived in several supportive facilities. For the last 37 years, he was supported by the caring community of Community Living York South and died peacefully at Union Villa where he lived for the past seven years. Special thanks to the wonderful staff of both Community Living York South and Union Villa.
Walter had a simple life and treasured his strong connection with his sister Mema and her husband Bob. He loved baseball caps, Tim Horton’s coffee, donuts and chocolate cake. He taught us about resilience, strength, and grace under adversity.
To express our gratitude for the love and care provided to Walter the family would appreciate memorial donations in his name to Community Living York South, 101 Edward Avenue, Richmond Hill, Ontario, L4C 5E5. www.communitylivingyorksouth.ca

During the later years that I had the pleasure to know him, Walter reinforced the importance of style, respect, humor and habits. His shirt collars were ‘just so’ , he valued eye contact and situational understanding, and his favorite blue blanket and ball cap were treasured. But Walter could be mischievous!
I remember one day washing my hands before leaving. Coming back into his room to put on my coat, Walter reached out from his wheelchair and pulled it to the floor. He just looked at me with a twinkle in his eyes and a ‘ Wonder how it got there look of innocence’
Condolences to family and everyone touched by Walter. And especially to Mema. You meant the world to him.
