余偉山 Wai Shan Yu

May 4, 1940 -  March 10, 2024

Wai-Shan Yu passed away peacefully, on March 10, 2024. He was 84 years old.

Born in Taisan, Guangdong Province in China, he was the youngest of 3 children to parents Mo Hing and Chung Chow Yu. At 19 he joined his grandfather in Canada. first working at his grandfather’s laundromat. Shortly after his grandfather’s death he further studied technical drafting, which led to his employment at TransCanada Pipelines. Shan had a life-long career with the company in Toronto and Calgary, retiring in 1999.

He met his wife Shirley and married in October 1969 and 3 kids soon followed. He had a strong sense of responsibility and provided well for his family and put all kids through university.

In retirement life, he enjoyed his time traveling, practicing Tai Chi and weekly dim sum. He will be missed by his devoted wife of 55 years, Shirley, his children Katharine (Edward), Eric and Wendy, his grandchildren Teagan and Trinity, his sister Choi Fong and many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
