In memory of

Wai Kuen Mee "Mee" Wong 黃余潤芳太夫人

April 7, 1936 -  January 28, 2021

Wai Kuen Mee Wong (nee Yee) passed away peacefully at her home in Toronto on January 28, 2021, in the presence of her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Wai Kuen Mee was born in Hoi Ping, Canton, China, and immigrated to Canada in 1955. She was the youngest of three children, and was pre-deceased by her father (Wah Kwing Howard Yee), her mother (Fui Kam Leung Yee), elder sister (Yan Ching Mah), and brother (Bill Yee). She is survived by her husband (Sidney Jung Wong), son (Albert Wong & wife, Jane), daughter (Sally Tom & Husband, Chun), and grandchildren (Brittany Tom, Michael Tom, Melissa Wong, and Alison Wong).

Wai Kuen Mee worked at her father's restaurant (Liberty Restaurant) in Orillia, Ontario, before marrying Sidney in 1956. They then started and operated a successful neighbourhood grocery store (Wong's and Son Produce), on Roncesvalles Ave. in the High Park/Parkdale area of Toronto, for over 30 years, until retiring in the early 1990’s.

Wai Kuen Mee will be dearly missed, and forever loved, by her extended family and many friends and acquaintances who had the fortune to meet and know her. She was small in stature, but possessed a very big heart and a selfless character. Memories of her always cheerful and loving disposition, friendly greetings, smile, and generosity, will remain with us forever.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the funeral will be held as a private family service, but will be live-streamed on February 8, 2021, for anyone who would like to participate. (The link will appear at the top of this memorial page just before the start of the event @ 10:00 a.m.)

Flowers will be accepted at the Pine Hills Funeral Centre (625 Birchmount Rd., Scarborough, ON M1K 2R1) until Sunday, February 7th, at 4:00 p.m.

A Celebration of Life will be held when COVID-19 restrictions permit.

Mee, you are the kindest soul that I have ever had the privilege of knowing. I will miss your smile. Not sure what we would ever have done without you and Sidney. Thank you so very much for all of the love you shared in everything you did. Everyone will miss it. Rest in peace. xoxo

Our deepest condolences to your family. We were so sorry to hear of Auntie Mae's passing. She was always such a wonderfully bright and generous person -- I will always remember her pressing candy bars into my hands whenever we visited the store. Rest in peace.
