Violet passed away peacefully in the presence of her Lord in Barrie Ontario on October 30th, 2023. Predeceased by her beloved husband John Thomas Elson, parents Orville and Berndine Winn, sisters, Vera & Florence, brothers Tom, Bill, Earnest, Westley, John, and Orville and great grandson AJ Callahan.

She will be deeply missed by her loving children, Margaret (Roy) Short, Cheryl (Glen) Callahan, Wendy (Gary) Gordon, Donna (Wayne) Cassell, Barbara (Tony) Rosati, Beverly (Tony) Carrelas and her sister Laura Kelly. Cherished grandmother to Shannon (Mark), John (Sara), Tabitha (Adam), Michael (Melanie), Adam (Lisa), Darryl, Victoria, Alannah, Matthew, Samuel and 16 great grandchildren and one great, great grandson. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends.

Violet was born on June 29th, 1929, in Drumheller Alberta. She was 1 of 10 children. It was in Alberta that she met and married her husband John Thomas Elson. It was there that she was blessed with her first 3 daughters. Shortly after she moved to Botwood, Newfoundland and raised her family with 3 more daughters.

Violet's relationship with Jesus and her involvement in church was an integral part of her life. She attended Jubilee Pentecostal Temple, where she enjoyed Women's Ministries, Senior Choir and taught Sunday school. Violet had a passion for children and babies. She worked selflessly for the care of her family and served the needs of countless others.

Violet loved to sing and create her own jingles to popular songs, teaching them to her children and grandchildren without ever telling them the correct words. She had a great sense of humor. She excelled in all things blueberry, she was an excellent baker, and her treats were enjoyed by many. In Violet’s home everyone was made to feel welcome.

Following the service a light luncheon will be held at the funeral home, all are welcome.

In her Bible she inscribed these wise and meaningful words:

“If I could live over the days that are past, I’d live them for Jesus the first to the last”

Violet’s favorite time of the year was Christmas, she made Christmas special for her family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Violet’s memory to Samaritan’s Purse “Operation Christmas Child”.
