In memory of

Vesna Brcic

January 16, 1939 -  November 2, 2022

Vesna Brčić, 83, died on November 2, 2022 after a long battle with dementia, with family by her side.

Vesna was a strong, confident woman who, along with her husband, took a leap of faith in moving her young family from Croatia to Canada in 1967, a move they never regretted. Above all, Vesna loved her family. Her biggest joys in life were her children and grandchildren and they will never forget how she spoiled them with her love and amazing cooking and baking. Even though Vesna had a busy career, she found time to take care of her beloved gardens and host many laughter filled parties for family and friends. She will be sadly missed, and fondly remembered, by all who knew her.

Vesna is survived by her children, Branimir (Veronica) and Jasenka (Mark), as well as grandchildren, Aleksandar, Theo, Benjamin and Maya.

She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Ivo, her parents, Rikard and Mira Neuhold, sister, Renata Malek and daughter-in-law, Brinley Evans.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.

My dearest Jess, Bran and family,
My deepest condolence to all of you. It’s been a difficult year, but I know that you are surrounded by family and friends that love you and will see you through yet another trying period. Momma Vesna was a modern day, strong, confident, loving, and empowering woman. She had the tenacity to push the envelope with eloquence, grace, and style. She leads by example for many women, including myself, that anything is possible if you believe. Growing up, my visits to the Brcic home was not by any means boring. I fondly remember simple home cooked meals (compliments of chef Vesna), excellent conversations of history, arts, music, politics and lots of shenanigans and LAUGHTER. Without fail, Momma Vesna would share her latest sewing project with a “show and tell” of her recent visit to Fabricland. The pattern and fabrics she chose, textures and colors, so beautiful! She had such great love for cooking, baking (those Christmas tray of cookies!), gardening, décor, and FAMILY. She was a modern-day fashionista, head to toe from jewelry, scarves, purses, and shoes. I will truly miss her! Thank you, Momma Vesna, for your unwavering love of embracing me into your family and being such a wonderful role model to myself.
All my love,
Mary Anne and Connor
