In memory of

Veronica Lynne Nunn dePencier

May 6, 1957 -  July 4, 2022

Died July 4, 2022, from complications of Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), a rare disease with many similarities to Parkinson's. Born May 6, 1957, in Edmonton. Daughter of Jack and Vera (Scher) Nunn, sister of Mark Nunn (Lois Lorimer) and Robin Nunn (Catherine Burwell). She was the persevering wife of Joseph Christian de Pencier for almost 39 years. Fiercely proud mother of Dr. North Davenport de Pencier and J. Christian Dumaresq de Pencier (Hayley Mae Jones). Sister-in-law of Jan de Pencier (Geoff Seaborn), Adam de Pencier (Jane LaMantia) and Michele de Pencier (Michael Eastmure), and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. A product of York Mills Collegiate (she eschewed Grade 13 to attend university in Montreal), Vickie Nunn was a double gold medalist (McGill Architecture and Ontario Association of Architects Raymor Medal winner). Accomplished design architect, tough project manager, award-wining public servant, leader in her profession and mentor to younger colleagues (especially women). She designed or oversaw the construction or renovation of everything from the major buildings of Canada's Parliamentary precinct, such as the East Block, the West Block and the Wellington Building, to hospitals and birthing centres, major condominiums, group homes, private homes and cottages, and even an ammunition storage depot at CFB Petawawa. Her disease robbed her of the opportunity to direct the renovation of the Centre Block of Parliament, now underway in Ottawa. Intrepid partner in travel and adventure, she paddled the Nahanni, the French and the Madawaska, and cycled France, Ireland and Aotearoa. While an undistinguished Nordic and alpine skier, she ran and swam with gusto. Serial visitor to Japan and an enthusiastic resident of Toronto, Ottawa, Paris and Bonn, and for nearly five months, a camper van with young kids in New Zealand. Lover of Lac à l'Anguille, l'Ange-Gardien, Québec, where she designed and built her dream home, and did her best painting. Profound thanks to the nursing staff of Toronto Western Hospital's Unit 8B, and to Drs. Toubassi, Lie, Lewin, Kassa, and others, for exemplary care, and to Sarah Tagarda and to Vic's close friends for their many kindnesses. We remember her for the gifted, vibrant, multi-talented, bold, caring and wicked-smart person that she was. There will be a celebration of her life in mid-September in Toronto. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University Health Network Foundation.

Dear Joseph, North and Dumaresq,

So many fond memories made together when we were all younger but among our favourites will be picking blueberries and leaping off high rocky shores along the Pickerel and French Rivers on our families' canoe trip. We were all so happy in the outdoors.

Veronica is greatly missed. She was a dear friend and mentor, whom had incredible spirit and an awesome wit. Her positivity and ability to move mountains on a project were absolutely incredible to watch. She has taught so many so much and has left a legacy that will continue to be passed on to others. Her memory will not be forgotten.

Sincerest condolences to her family whom she loved very much and spoke about so often. I know she was fiercely proud of her children and is watching over them from above. Wishing the family all the best.

I’m really awestruck by the service and how much Vickie was admired and loved. I remember the Christmases at her parents place, my uncle Jack and Aunt Vera, would always have since I was 3 and remember my cousin Vickie… :( Sweet memories
