Haliuk, Verna (Danchak)

Peacefully at Rockcliffe Care Community, Scarborough on Saturday, April 16, 2022 in her 91st year. Much loved mother of Ronald and Randy. Beloved grandma of Zackary. Predeceased by her husband Alex (2009). Predeceased by her parents Anna and Peter Danchak and seven brothers and sisters (Mary, Tom, Joe, Helen, Stella, Kathleen, and Mike) Verna is remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Verna was born at Alvena, Saskatchewan on August 1, 1931. She was raised in Saskatchewan until 1945 when she moved to Ontario. Verna married Alex Haliuk on June 1, 1953 in Toronto. She was a 15+ year employee of the Laura Secord Candy Company during the 1950’s and 1960’s. In 1957 Verna and Alex moved to a new home in Scarborough where they proudly welcomed their sons Ronald (1966) and Randy (1969). During the 1970’s and 1980’s Verna was a homemaker focused on her family. In later years she liked to spend time walking, shopping, watching old movies and sending cards and letters to family and friends. In recent years, as her health declined, Verna moved to Rockcliffe Care Community in Scarborough.

In accordance with her wishes, no funeral service was held. Verna was interred privately on Friday April 22, 2022 at Pine Hills Cemetery.

The family would like to thank all the staff and caregivers at Rockcliffe Care Community for the care they provided Verna during her final years.
