In memory of

Vera St. Omer - Simmons

January 3, 1939 -  June 13, 2023

The family of Vera St. Omer-Simmons is saddened by the passing of their beloved sister and aunt on June 13rd at 2:00 pm. Vera passed away at the Hawthorn Woods Care Community, the long-term care facility where she was a resident. She was 84 years young.

In her senior years, Vera married Sydney Simmons, who brought her immense joy. Sadly, Sydney transitioned in 2011. In addition to Sydney, Vera is pre-deceased by her parents, Iris and Rodney St. Omer, and by her sisters Carol, Una, and Tita.

She is survived by:
- Brothers: William aka Straw, Jermaine aka Rajow, Gregory Bobb, Dexter, Jarvis and Wallace.
- Sisters: Lena and Gene
- Nieces: Ingrid, Rosie, Veda, Vesta, Valerie, Karen, Janelle, Trona, and her adopted niece Trudy
- Nephews: Michael, Derek, John, Danny, Nicky, Darin, Gelam and AJ
- Godchildren: Sheri, Shermaye, Darrell, and her sister Gene
- Cousins: the Eloise, Husbands, Skerritt, Auguste, and Boxill families, among others

Vera arrived in Canada in 1966 and after a series of miscellaneous jobs was hired by Bell Canada on a permanent basis. She remained with Bell for most of her adult years, until retirement. Vera was liked by everyone she encountered and was described as a vivacious, fun-loving individual who was always the life of the party. Her flair for living life to the fullest was infectious and she brought humour to her interactions with people from all walks of life, especially children. She was every child's Aunty and she constantly showered her ‘adopted’ children with gifts, especially at Christmas time. Vera will be missed dearly by family and friends alike.

The memorial service for Vera St. Omer-Simmons will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023, at the Simple Alternative Funeral Home, 1535 South Gateway Road, Mississauga, Ontario L4W 5G6. The family will greet guests from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, and a Celebration of Life service will follow, from 11: 00 am till 12:00 noon. A reception will be held immediately after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family humbly suggests a donation in Vera’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or to Diabetes Canada. Please visit the "Donations" page and follow the instructions. I will always remember Vera fondly. She had an amazing sense of humor, loved life, and enjoyed a "good lime."
You will be truly missed my friend. Rest in peace my friend, until we meet again.
