In memory of

Vera Edythe Cullum

April 24, 1932 -  January 10, 2024

Peacefully, in her 92nd year, Vera Cullum, daughter of the late Norman Addison and Margaret Rachel (Reid) McLeod. Survived by her sister-in-law Lou McLeod of Parry Sound. Predeceased by her loving husband James Eric Cullum, her brother Vern Leslie McLeod, her sister Joyce Fern Kelly, and her brother-in-law George Andrew Kelly. Proudly remembered by her nephews and nieces and their families – Bruce (Jennifer) Kelly, Lynne (Ned) Ivanovich, Scott (Jenifer) Kelly, Kevin (Colleen) McLeod, Karen McLeod, and Brian (Donna) McLeod.

Vera was born in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan, and spent her formative years in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. As a teenager, she moved with her family, first briefly to Wingham, Ontario, and then to Parry Sound, Ontario, where her father managed the town’s Beaver Lumber store.

Following graduation from Parry Sound High School, Vera moved to Toronto, where she worked in the offices of British Airways and later Moore Business Forms. She married Eric Cullum in 1972, resigning her job in 1991 to care for him following his debilitating stroke.

Vera had a great love of life and fondness for animals, especially pugs, of which she had four, most recently her constant companion Poncho. She was an avid golfer into her 80s as a member of Uplands Golf Club and later the Royal Stouffville Golf Course. In 2020, she moved to Canterbury Place Retirement Residence, where she made many new good friends and enjoyed socializing and playing bridge four times per week.

In Vera’s own words, she loved fun and foolishness and always looked on the bright side of life. She will be missed.

A celebration of life will be held on February 10, 2024, at 1 pm at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto. For more information or a link to the live streaming of the celebration, contact Bruce Kelly. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made online to one of Vera’s favourite charities, Pugalug Pug Rescue, at www.pugalug.com.

We will miss Vera so very much. She was both fun-loving and a pragmatist.
