In memory of

Ursula Hanikat

October 7, 1929 -  January 13, 2022

Ursula Hanikat, born October 7, 1929 went home to be with her Lord in the early hours of January 13, 2022 at the age of 92. Born in Saaremaa, Estonia to parents Leopold and Minna Hirsch, Ursi was the middle child to older sister to Elfrieda (Aleksander) Mets, and younger brother Harry (Lille) Hirsch all predeceased. Ursi, like so many Estonians escaped WW2 by fleeing first to Sweden at the age of 14, and later immigrated to Canada where she met her husband and built a life together in Toronto. She was predeceased by her adored husband of 35 years, Elmar Hanikat (1992).

She was the beloved mother and mother-in-law to Rita (Derek Barnes) and Susan (Ross Carkner). Cherished Nana to Tina (Marcel), Sarah (Dave), Jason (Michelle) and Brandon (Krystyna). Loving Great-Grandmother of Carter, Austin, June and Jack. Fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews both here and in Estonia.

Ursula was an unwavering woman of faith with a servants heart. She greeted everyone with a smile and a warm embrace, and despite being in constant pain and discomfort she very rarely complained. She leaves behind a legacy to her family, who she loved fiercely, of God’s amazing love and grace, and was an example to all who knew her. She is already missed by her family, many friends, fellow residents at Ehatare Retirement Home, and her TEBK church family.

Knowing that our Ema stands, pain free, in the presence of her God, who she has served her entire life, brings comfort and peace to our broken hearts.

While a private visitation and Service to Celebrate Ursula’s life will be held, the service can be viewed on line Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 2:00 pm by clicking on the live-stream link above. In memory of Ursula, donations can be make to the Scott Mission at donate.scottmission.com

Please note that COVID protocols and restrictions are in place and masks are mandatory while in the Funeral Home. Government recommendations regarding social distancing and physical contact will be observed.

We join you as we grieve such a great loss. Your Mom was an inspiration to many, so loving and gentle. We are thankful to have shared her life in a small way. She probably never realized the enormous influence she had throughout her life…on family, friends and other relationships. May God comfort and hold you close. Much love, Mair and Denny

Your Mom was a lovely lady who will be sadly missed by all who knew her. We will always think of her when we make the delicious gingerbread cookies from her recipe. Thinking of all of you at this time of great sadness.
Love Lucy and Blair ❤️

Kallis Tädi Ursi.
One of my favourite people since I was 10 years old in her Sunday School classes and then in “juniors”. My mother, Maimu Lindström was also a good friend and we kept in touch over the years.God’s treasure to us all.
She will be missed for her smile, enthusiasm, friendliness, and seeing who needed extra care. What a sample of love!

Dear Susan and Rita:
What a lovely tribute to your beautiful mother. The picture is perfect and exactly as I remember her.
Ursula was truly a woman of God and always / ALWAYS had a smile on her face and something nice to say. Whenever I made it to the TEBK, she always sought me out (or I her) and we greeted each other warmly. I hope she catches up with my mom and dad. Pretty sure the choir of angels have welcomed her with brilliant and beautiful song.
