Unis Emelda Brown
December 31, 1940 -
December 24, 2023
Unis Emelda Brown (nee Springette) passed away on December 24, 2023, peacefully surrounded by her family and friends.
Unis was born on December 31,1940 in Nevis, West Indies to Victor and Dorothy Springette. She was one of ten siblings and is survived by four, Verna White (Franklin), Cicely Allen (Bedford), Ulston Springette (Florence) and Erin Liburd. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In the early 1960’s, Unis moved from Nevis, West Indies to Leeds, England where she studied and pursued a career in nursing. It was in England where she met the love of her life, George Brown. They were married for 61 years and have three sons, Eugene, Derrick, (Pauline) and Kevin (Allison) and six grandchildren (Nigel, the late Eugene Jr., Kaden, Marcus, Nolan and Harper).
In the late 1960’s, Unis and her family migrated to Brampton, Ontario where she worked as a nurse for over thirty years. After she retired, Unis and George built a home in Trinidad, West Indies where they spent most of their retirement years in the winter months.
Unis was a thoughtful, compassionate and generous person. She has a close-knit family and many lifelong friends. She loved to entertain and would always be in the kitchen cooking delicious meals whenever anyone stopped by. She was a great cook and showed and expressed her love through her cooking. We will miss her amazing “johnny cakes and coconut tarts” that only she could pull off with ease. Unis was a person who always offered a helping hand wherever she went.
Unis was an avid church member of The Peel Pentecostal Tabernacle Church in Brampton and loved the Lord. She was an active member of the 55+ Club in Mississauga, Ontario, and enjoyed watching sports (especially baseball, basketball and tennis) and she was passionate about gardening.
Unis had an infectious laugh and was strong willed. Even throughout her illness, she fought a good fight with a sense of determination until her last breath. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
“Remembering you will be easy as we will do it everyday. It will be the pain of losing you that will never go away.”
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
