In memory of

Tome Sutaroski

January 12, 1930 -  July 22, 2021

On July 22, 2021 in his 91st year, Tome Sutaroski passed peacefully surrounded by his family. Tome is survived by his wife Cvetanka; his son Nick (Diana), and late daughter Paula; his grandchildren Sandy (Adam), Melissa (Alex) and Jacqueline (Ryan). Tome is predeceased by his parents Kalina and Michael Markovski, and brother Risto Sutaroski.

Tome was born on January 12th, 1930, in the town of Brusnik, Macedonia. At the age of 21, Tome enlisted in the Yugoslavian military. He completed his training and carried out his duties to deliver supplies and food to the troops.

Upon his return to Brusnik, Tome found his soon-to-be wife, Cvetanka, where they got married on May 17th, 1953. They had their first child Paula in 1955. The family then made the move to Canada, following Tome’s father Michael. They boarded the boat in 1958 and docked at Pier 21 in Halifax, NS. Their first place of residence was in Toronto, where Tome lived very close with his brother Risto and his family.

The family worked very hard to purchase their first home in Scarborough, where they still live 53 years later. Tome continued to work many jobs in Toronto as a labourer to support his family.

Tome was beyond excited to welcome his first granddaughter and Kukla, Sandy. And then later Melissa and Jacqueline.

Tome was always happiest in his home garden, tending to his peppers, tomatoes, garlic and his many other fruits and vegetables. Tome was also known to be quite the handy-man: if it was broken, he would fix it; if he couldn’t fix it, he would make it.

He lived many amazing years, spending his time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends. He had many stories of the war and the “old country”, and he would be happy to share them with anyone who would listen. He was the favourite in the family, and was “Dedo” to everyone he met. We will forever cherish the many memories we have with him.

A funeral service will be held at Pine Hills Funeral Centre. Due to Covid restrictions, there will be a small service for family at 10 am on July 27th, and a zoom link will be made available at that time.

In lieu of flowers, loved ones are welcomed to donate to the Scarborough Health Network Foundation

Tome was not a Neighbohor but a friend, grandfather and advisor to all of us in our household. He routinely asked about my kids and extended family and always showered us with his love each time we met him. He was someone we trusted whole heartedly with everything. Knowing “Grandpa” was home or sitting outside on his bench or looking outside from the fireplace put our minds and hearts at ease. We had routine waves to each other every single morning, something I looked forward too.

My wife and kids were also very fortunate to be on receiving end of his love and compassion. Wether it was gardening tips or just house keeping ideas, he always had something to share. We were all ears when he spoke to us because we knew how much lived experience he had to share and how little we really knew ourselves. We soaked in every minute of it and this brought smiles to all of our faces. He literally treated us like family and for that we will be forever great full.

Tome, Tom uncle, Grandpa you will be forever in our hearts for the last effective you have left on us. We promise to watch over your wife and our grandma Cvebtanka as you rest in piece.
