In memory of
黃顏定珍夫人 Ting Chun Wong
October 16, 1946 -
October 24, 2021
Ting Chun, also known as Jean by many of her friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 24, 2021 at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket surrounded by her loving family.
At her time of death, she was 75 years young, the eldest of five children born to the late Kwai Sun Ngan and Fung Choo Ngan in Poon Yue, China.
In 1966, she travelled to Guyana where she married her husband Richard and resided for six years before immigrating to Canada in 1972. For almost 50 years following their arrival in Canada, they lived and worked tirelessly farming in the Holland Marsh. Jean's green thumb and innate ability to make things grow and thrive contributed to the success of the farm, as evidenced by the abundant flowering shrubs that greeted visitors to her home and the enormous Chinese Winter melons she grew and gave away to friends and family. She will also be remembered for her cooking and baking skills, especially her famous sponge cake and almond cookies.
While she worked hard during the farming season, she made time to travel on multiple occasions to Hong Kong and China. During the non-farming season, she enjoyed frequent trips to the Niagara and Rama casinos with her son in-law. Her other favorite pastimes included spending time with her children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
Ting Chun is survived by her husband of 54 years, Richard, daughters Jessica (Darren Atkinson), Natalie Jacqueline (Sean Dearing) and son Rob (Frances Du), her four grandchildren Brandon, Thomas, Sara, and Olivia. She also leaves behind her mother Fung Choo Ngan, sister Mo Chun Ngan (Kui Chong Chau), brothers Len Sum Ngan (Soo See), Len Kun Ngan (Siu Xia), predeceased by her sister Shau Chun Ngan (Bing Yao Li), many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
