In memory of

Thong Chanh Kong

June 2, 1960 -  July 23, 2024

On a bright summer afternoon on July 23, 2024, Thong Chanh Kong passed away peacefully in Dorothy Ley Hospice in Etobicoke. His departure was a monument to a fulfilling life of adventure, love, and dignity. He moved through life cherishing and surrounding himself with loved ones, and just as he passed, that was what he was surrounded by: serenity and love.

Chanh was born in Vientiane, Laos on June 2, 1960, the youngest of seven siblings. He immigrated to Canada in the 80s with family, where he met and married his wife, Samantha, and had two beautiful boys, Jaron and Brandon.

Throughout his 64 years, Chanh had an unwavering devotion to his family. He worked hard to support them, and was always motivated in keeping his family secure and happy. He was immensely proud of his financial success, and wouldn’t hesitate to offer others tips on investments and stock trading. His eyes always lit up when he saw green arrows on BNN Bloomberg.

Chanh was an exceptional handyman. He spent a lot of time working on home improvement projects: painting, cleaning, keeping his home in shape. His handiwork extended into the yard as well: trimming the tree branches in the backyard, raking the waves of orange and red leaves in the fall, and picking wild mushrooms in the yard from where a tree used to stand.

With his free time, he enjoyed traveling. He explored places all over the world with family and loved ones, including frequent trips to beaches in the Caribbean, a month-long road trip across Canada, and multiple trips to Asia and Europe.

Chanh loved playing table tennis, priding himself as the champion of both his household and his workplace. He was also skilled in badminton, bowling, and tennis, and he could shoot a basketball with exceptional accuracy. He also loved jumping on his e-bike and exploring Mississauga alongside Samantha.

What Chanh enjoyed the most was spending time with loved ones, chatting, laughing together. He always talked about the importance of staying close to the people you love. He had an unending loyalty to loved ones, and was kind and caring to strangers.

Chanh wanted to recover well enough in his journey to be able to volunteer at Credit Valley Hospital to repay the healthcare community that worked hard to keep him as healthy as he could be. In his spirit, please know that we are happily donating all monetary gifts to Trillium Health Partners Foundation and Dorothy Ley Hospice.
