In memory of

Thomas Mladen

March 29, 1935 -  March 16, 2017

Tom Mladen died from Alzheimer’s and cancer in Scarborough on March 16, 2017 after living every day of his 82 years. His welcoming, caring, generous, gentlemanly, funny nature will be missed by everyone, especially his wife Mary, children Mike (Paula) and Caryn (Sandro), grandchildren Alex and Jack, siblings Ginny, Gloria (Don), Suzanne (Jay), Chris (Lina) and a multitude of friends and family.

Tommy was born to Louis and Christina Mladen in the apartment above the Meca Grill in east Toronto on March 29, 1935. Known for his athletic prowess at Riverdale High, he obtained his diploma in Public Health Inspection at Ryerson and was a health inspector for Scarborough. After retiring, his workmates kept inviting him out, and their summer BBQs were still held at Tom and Mary’s Scarborough home for the next decade.

Tom loved getting together with people for dinners, parties, golf, bowling, cottage weekends or any occasion. He travelled the world and made friends wherever he went. Kids were always drawn to him. Friends knew he was always there to help (he won Scarborough’s 2013 Best Neighbour Award), joke around and offer his memorable catchphrases. Tom was a mainstay at Meals on Wheels. He played every sport imaginable, extremely well, but he would be the last person to brag.

Tommy was one of a kind; sort of the godfather of all the PHI's who knew him on a personal scale; he was always a gentleman; quiet spoken and the first to lend a hand; admired by all ,and quite the athlete in any sport he played; always the perfect host when he had office parties or bbq's in the backyard; he loved his golf and so glad he got to join the boys in Myrtle Beach; he will be missed, but always remembered;

Tom will be dearly missed by all his friends and colleagues. Tom and I along with all the gang had some wonderful times down in Myrtle beach. Tom will be dearly remembered as a real gentleman and honest guy. I will never forget his most consistent golf swing off the tee box and the ball ALWAYS went straight!!! With all my condolences to the whole family
Ralph
