In memory of

Teresa Laing

November 24, 1950 -  May 14, 2024

It is with the deepest sorrow that we share the passing at home, of Teresa (Terry) Laing, on Tuesday, May 14th with loved ones by her side. She was a loving and devoted mother to Rebecca (William) and Kailee (Antony), cherished grandmother to Jakob and Clay, and beloved sister to Gina. Teresa is predeceased by her parents Bob (1987) and Carmen (2012), as well as her brother Robert (2016). She was born in London, England on November 24th, 1950, and emigrated to Canada with her family at the age of 13. Teresa was a talented and creative person, a gifted pastry chef, kind and compassionate, with a deep love of animals and nature. She lived for many years in British Columbia, where the laid-back lifestyle and beauty of the surroundings spoke to her soul. In the last few years, the challenges of dementia necessitated her move back to Ontario, where she was lovingly cared for by her daughter, Rebecca, and son-in-law, William. Although our hearts are broken, we will remember Teresa in happier, healthier times, with a purring cat curled up by her side.

Visitation will be at Pine Hills Cemetery on Sunday, May 19th from 1-2 PM, with service to follow. The family thanks everyone for their kind words of support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Teresa’s memory to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.

I’m sad to hear this heartbreaking news. But what I know is the love and care she had in her final years, and the expansive love of life she had in earlier ones. There is not a better gift than the care she received with her family, the safety net that surrounded her with William and Rebecca and the dignity afforded her as her memory diminished. I send my condolences to you, and all friends and family. She was a beautiful, talented and warm person. She will be missed. Love Janis

Wishing Teresa’s whole family comfort in this difficult time. I did not know Teresa personally, but when I myself moved away from home to explore Western Canada in my 20s my mother, a long time friend of Gina, would often mention to me Gina’s cool and interesting sister who was living her best life in BC.
While living in Calgary I would often travel to BC to spend time in nature and can agree with Teresa that it does fuel the soul! I bet she had a wonderful life out there and was grateful to spend the last portion surrounded by family here in Ontario.
Much love!
Anthony
