Tedis died in Scarborough General hospital September 22, 2016. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Inta (Kalnins) of 32 years, his sister Irene and her family in Riga, Latvia, his sister Lilijas(2010) family in Kiev, Ukraine, goddaughter Laura and family in Arlington, VA and other relatives in Canada, USA and Latvia.

Tedis was born in Zilupe, Latvia where his father was a border guard between Latvia and Russia. In 1930 his father left the post to start farming near Riga. Being a young lad this is where Tedis learned all about farming and all of the practical trades. He joined the Latvian army in 1943, just before the end of the war he got sick with hepatitis and his army days came to an end. In 1946 he joined his grandmother, aunt and cousin in Germany. After Germany, he got a work visa to England where he worked as a gardener. In 1952 he sailed to Canada. He did not know anyone, he was young, energetic and eager to start a new life. He took night school courses and became a tool and die machinist. He worked for Pathex(Canada) for many years. Soon after retirement, Latvia regained independence from the Soviet Union and he visited and worked to rebuild his farm for his sisters’ family. He enjoyed gardening here in Toronto. Throughout his life in Toronto, he was a member of the St. Andrew’s Latvian Lutheran Church choir for 50 years, where he met his dear Inta and spent wonderful years together. Visitation will be at York Cemetery Monday September 26, 2016, 160 Beecroft Road Toronto from 1300hrs to the time of service at 1400 hrs.
