In memory of

Ted Warzek

Ted Warzek (Wawrzaszek)

Ted passed away peacefully on June 7th at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, just a week shy of his 84th birthday.
Born in Toronto, he was the eldest of three siblings & is survived by his sisters Christina & Gladys & their husbands Charlie & Rick. Ted said he was blessed to have two wonderful women in his life - his first wife Olga who predeceased him in 1993 & Mary Ellen Wilson with whom he lived in Oshawa for the last 25 years. Together, Ted and Olga had 3 sons: Jeff , Barry & Ronnie (wife Ursula), who will miss him dearly. He also had five grandchildren: Nicole, Kristin, Ryan, Shannen, & Sullivan, many nieces & nephews as well as Mary Ellen’s sons Conn (wife Rosie) & Joel (wife Tricia).
Ted was a gifted athlete when young in track & field and hockey. He spent considerable time, effort and love encouraging his children to excel in sports beyond his achievements. There were years of 5am hockey practices in cold arenas, a backyard rink to build and water every season, travelling around Toronto for games and tournaments with his boys. Ted was an avid fisherman and accomplished golfer. He loved playing the local courses around Oshawa all the way to his favourite in Port Perry. He also liked games of chance & visited a casino or two with Mary Ellen, where, by his reports, he most often won. One of Ted's great loves was his Balsam Lake cottage that he and Mary Ellen purchased after his retirement. They enjoyed it for almost a decade. Raking pine needles in the spring, clearing the water weeds from the swimming area and fishing off his dock were some of the simple joys. Ted always liked a good party. The house he shared with Olga in Mississauga was frequently crowded with friends and family celebrating something. He and Mary Ellen also hosted many fun gatherings with their friends in Oshawa that Ted thoroughly enjoyed.

Please join family & friends for a celebration of Ted's life on Sunday June 23rd at the Thornton Funeral Home - 1200 Thornton Road North, Oshawa. Tributes at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Ted to the Canadian Cancer Society.

I greatly value the time I spent with my grandfather. I remember him coming to watch me play hockey as a boy and sparking my interest in fish by showing me his koi pond. I keep insight I received from grandpa close to my heart. There were a few times that grandpa said things me that have been dear to me since I heard him say it, and his insights helped me understand myself.

I hope that all of his family and friends remember him well and may grandpa Ted rest in peace.

Ted, I will miss your humour and smart stories. Wish we could have spent more Sunday diners together and a few more road trips. Some tears have been shed. Your spirit and drive will keep on....
