In memory of

Sylvia Helga Schmid

November 3, 1935 -  May 23, 2024

Sylvia Schmid (nee Stolz) passed away peacefully at her home on May 23rd in her 89th year.
Loving mother to Krista and partner Cris, Karin and husband Cameron, and adoring grandmother of Adrian, Marco, and Juliette.
Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Kurt, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and memories.

Our mother was an adventurous spirit who always embraced new challenges and experiences.
Born in Belgrade (former Yugoslavia), Sylvia grew up in Nuremberg, Germany, and at the age of 18 made the bold decision to make the journey to Canada on her own. This is where she met Kurt, with whom she started a family and built a beautiful life.

Our mother had a zest for life that was infectious to all who knew her. She had a passion for travel, exploring new places, and trying new things. She travelled extensively, but her heart was most full when spending time with family and friends at her beloved cottage on Georgian Bay.

Sylvia will be cremated and laid to rest next to her husband Kurt at Mt Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto.

In keeping with Sylvia’s wish, there will be no formal service however in honour of Sylvia we ask that you raise a glass with loved ones and toast her beautiful life.

Donations can be made to The Georgian Bay Land Trust.

Beautifully written. My summers were richer with Sylvia in them. She, Kurt and Reinhard can now toast this next chapter together, as my family and I toast to a full life, and a tenacious woman.

The joy that you brought our bay will shine on in the diamonds of the waves, and the setting of the sun.
Always in my heart. Thank you for being so kind to my parents and grandparents, and the three of us always. You are a special and wonderful woman. Your legacy of adventure and love lives on

Krista, Karin and families, we are thinking of you in heartfelt memory of Sylvia, a woman of indomitable spirit, as beautiful inside as she was lovely and elegant in person. Her multigenerational friendship and neighbourliness enriched our whole family. We raise a glass and toast her beautiful life.

Over the course of at least 10 years, once or twice a week, a spent an hour with Sylvia. The workout never overshadowed the conversation. We had fun. We solved the problems of the world. We talked about health, food, children, grandchildren, friends, relationships, body parts, and dying. We picked berries and walked to the dog park. We had social visits. Sylvia walked straight and tall, in every way. I think of her often, and what she taught me.
