Susie Bruce , Suzu Oki

Auntie Susie passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 6, 2021, at the grand old age of 98. She is preceded by her husband of 56 yrs, William Bruce.

Susie was born in Vancouver on May 27, 1923 to Yoshi Takahashi and Shigetaro Oki. She is one of five children: Ami, Susie, Mary, Henry, and Tommy. She is survived by her sister Mary Horri.
At 18, Susie and her family were interned at Tashme. After the war she moved to Toronto, working as a seamstress at Springers furrier and a nanny to support her family. She also attended night school to complete her grade 13 and then went on to Teachers college.

She started teaching in Windsor and then the Scarborough school boards until her retirement. Besides teaching she enjoyed classical music and opera. Susie and Bill spent the majority of their time sailing out of the NYC and had many happy times there. Susie also travelled widely with her sister Mary. She will be missed and remembered by her sister, nieces and nephews.

Funeral will take place Monday July 12 at 2pm at the York Funeral Center, 160 Beecroft Road, Toronto ON M2N 5Z5. Office: 416-221-3404

Thank you to the staff of Delmanor and support care workers for their care and assistance to Mrs Bruce. She really appreciated it.

I remember Susie and Bill taking Tracey and me sailing over night. She tried to teach us the terminology ie; tacking. Tracey got it, I did not .Susie was patient with us.
What a kind person she was.

Have fond memories of visiting when we were kids and invaded Susie's and Bill's house and club.
My own three had the pleasure of meeting Susie and Bill when we visited Canada after having heard me talk about them enough times.
Susie was Bill's fact checker. When he wasn't sure of my age he would quietly ask Susie. She watched us grow up and gave me happy memories.
