In memory of

Susan Han

August 4, 1960 -  April 14, 2024

April is the cruellest month. Our beloved Susan passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital surrounded by family. Her untimely death, the result of an aggressive case of glioblastoma, has left her family, friends, colleagues and community stunned and heartbroken. Her tumour was diagnosed less than three weeks before she passed.

Susan was an accomplished lawyer, a partner at WeirFoulds LLP, a dedicated volunteer who served the community, and a beloved host and organizer for her family. Susan was born in Seoul, Korea and at age 6, immigrated to Toronto with her family in 1967. She graduated from the University of Toronto Law School in 1986 following an undergraduate degree in History and Philosophy. She began her Bay Street career at Fasken & Calvin, then held roles at Midland Walwyn (SVP, Corp. Secretary), Invesco Trimark (SVP and General Counsel) and Dundee Wealth (SVP Legal, Compliance & Risk Management), before returning to private practice at Miller Thomson LLP, and later at WeirFoulds LLP. Susan’s practice focused on corporate and commercial law, securities, and anti-money laundering and she was highly respected for her expertise.

Susan passionately believed in service to the community in both formal positions and through mentorship. She served as a board member and Vice-Chair for the Arirang Age-Friendly Community Centre, a non-profit dedicated to providing culturally appropriate services for the Korean-Canadian community. In that capacity, she tirelessly led a team of volunteers to raise funds and acquire the licence for the Rose of Sharon Long-Term Care Home for the community. She had also served as Chair of the Korean Canadian Scholarship Foundation, on the board of VIVA Singers Toronto, and on the fundraising committee for the Philosophy Department of the University of Toronto. Susan frequently and enthusiastically shared her time and expertise with young lawyers through the Korean Canadian Lawyers’ Association.

With excellent culinary skills, Susan enjoyed hosting family and friends at her home and cottage, where she always made meals bursting with flavour. She delighted in spoiling the family dog, skiing, and reading literature and history for which she possessed an endless intellectual interest. She often wrestled with what it meant to live a good life. Her sharp mind, generous heart, and stoic attitude meant that she often did more and shirked recognition. Her wry humour was cherished by all who knew her.

Susan is survived by her husband, Ross Price, sons Gregory and Scott, her mother Yong Hyun Han (predeceased by her father Kyung Sup Han), siblings Sally (Peter Malakhov) and Douglas (Debra Parisi), as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family in Canada, Korea, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. She leaves a legacy of good, and hearts overflowing with sorrow. We love you Susan, rest peacefully.

* Visitation is scheduled for Friday, 10 May 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
* A Celebration of Life will occur on Saturday, 11 May 2024 at 11:00 AM.

Both events will be held at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre at 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Susan’s memory at https://arirang.ca.

I offer my condolences to the family of my dear cousin Susan.
She left us much too soon.
I will remember her as an always happy person, offering her help to all family.
Losing my mother was painful, but her sons must really suffer: eventually the sadness will lessen, they must try to remember the good times they shared.

My dear childhood friend —our meetings spanning almost 50 years were always marked with exclamations — such a genuine, sincere, smart, down-to-earth and beautiful person. You will be missed but forever cherished in my heart. Rest in peace Susan.
