In memory of

Susan Ghavam

1974 - 2024
Susan was born in 1974 in Tehran, Iran. Our family left Iran when she was 9 and spent a year in England, 2 years in Paris and 2 years in Corner Brook, Newfoundland before arriving in Toronto. Susan attended Georges Vanier Secondary School and was the valedictorian of her graduating class. She completed her bachelor’s degree at McMaster University in Social work and Political Science and a Master’s in Adult Education at Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at University of Toronto. She had a successful career in Human Resources. She began her work answering employee assistance phone calls, then moved to Price Waterhouse Coopers and took on an assignment in London, England. There she strengthened relationships with family who lived in England and met new friends. She returned to Toronto and gradually moved from pre-departure and expat human resources work to compensation. She enjoyed her time at The Four Seasons Hotel, which came with perks of additional travel. Her last position was as a Senior Manager in HR at CIBC. Wherever she went, Susan made lifelong friends. Susan was kind, caring, bright and interested in travel and trying new things. She enjoyed swimming, yoga, taking pictures and the outdoors. She welcomed Jasper into her home in 2020, he continues to bring countless hours of love, enjoyment and distraction. Our family is grateful for the support Susan received from her friends over the course of her illness. Susan is predeceased by her father, Hossein, and survived by mother, Shirin, and brothers, Abbas (Raymond) and Hassan. Memorial donations can be made to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.

I was saddened to learn of Susan’s passing. She was a wonderful person to work and travel with. Her smile was huge and we had some good laughs along the way. My condolences to all of you as you mourn her passing. Another light dimmed. Karen.

Susan was such a kind, funny, lovely person - from her bright nail polish to her passion for work - she was such a delight to everyone around her. Sending lots of love and care to the whole family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know from Susan that she was so grateful for all the love and support she received from her family. I am sorry for all you have been through with Susan’s fight the last couple of years. I enjoyed working with Susan and admired how hard she worked, she was an amazing partner and we always had lots of fun when we were in the office and keeping each others spirits up working at the beginning of the pandemic. She was dedicated, so kind and fashionable - we sat in the same pod at work pre-covid and always loved seeing her outfits and having a good conversation about where to shop.
Jasper brought Susan so much joy and I loved hearing about him. I hope he continues to comfort you all at this very difficult time.

Susan was a pleasure to work with, always ready to join you to tackle the day with her lovely smile and funny anecdote about Jasper. I enjoyed hearing her excitement about her new home she had found and the wonderful work they were doing to reclaim the building. She had such a great outlook on life. I only knew Susan a short time but will miss her greatly.
Sincerely,
Ashley
