In memory of

Susan Catherine LeMay

May 29, 1943 -  April 25, 2024

Born Susan Catherine Hall in Sudbury, May 29th 1943 to Bob and Dorothy Hall, Susan graduated from Sudbury Secondary School and then earned an Honors English & History degree at the University of Toronto.
She met her husband John, in Montreal at a tea dance. They married in 1966 and settled in Sudbury.
Susan taught high school at Lockerby Composite for five years until she left teaching to raise a family. For several years she was a full-time mother to her son, William and daughter, Catherine. Susan re-entered the workforce as the administrative director of the Sudbury Symphony, a job she loved. Susan returned to school and earned a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation. She also earned an MBA from Laurentian University.

After the Symphony Susan then ran the business functions of Pioneer Manor. She also served on the board of directors of the Sudbury Public Library.
In the late 1990s, Susan moved to Toronto to pursue a career as a software consultant for SAP FI/CO. This adventure took Susan to live and work in England for a year.

Susan and John decided to retire to Toronto and moved into their dream home in Harbour Square. Susan hated the term retired and kept herself busy studying French, including going on immersion courses in Quebec and France. She also madefriends in the building. She loved watching the harbour from her window, participating in social events like “Wine Thirty”and going to the St. Lawrence Market. Susan also loved the ocean and spent parts of many summers vacationing in Cape Cod and Nova Scotia.

Susan’s sense of humour was evident in the many faces she could create to entertain children (fish face anyone?) and the occasional stuffed “family member” who could be found wherever she was living.
Susan was a lifelong baker and her children didn’t eat store bought cookies until they left home. Susan was well known for her fruitcakes which she sent across the country to family members. She shared her love of baking with her grandchildren and demonstrated immense patience as they created chaos in her kitchen making a treasured family cookbook

Susan is survived by her husband of nearly 58 years, John, her son William (Ayesha) her daughter Catherine and her grandchildren Liam, Emma and Kai. She is also survived by her brother Bob (Gay) and sisters-in-law Mary Denise (Dennis), Madelyn, brother-in-law Paul (Alice Anne predeceased) and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre- 375 Mount Pleasant Road, on Sunday, May 26th from 3 - 5 pm.

John and Susan were long term supporters of Harbour House Women’s Shelter and Phoenix House for Youth in Nova Scotia. In lieu of flowers, donations to either organization would be welcome.

I have many sweet memories of time spent with Susan from when I was a child. I fondly recall visits to Sudbury and time at the yacht club on Ramsey lake. Susan always sent me funny birthday cards as a child and made me feel special in her world.
Sending love to John, Catherine and William and families, and hoping you feel Susan’s beauty in the celebration of her life.

I was just thinking of your Mom a few days ago. I think the last time we saw her was at a baseball game with your Dad, Susan and Don. After, the 6 of us went for dinner.
Please accept our heartfelt condolences on your Mom’s passing please.
I always remember her strawberry shortcake that she’d bring to Susan’s parties.

Dear uncle John, William, and Catherine and families,
I was so saddened to hear of Susan's passing. I have many fond memories of time spent with Susan and all of you in Toronto and Sudbury. Lots of goofy, funny faces shared all around, good food, sailing, swimming, and great conversation. The stars have met their match. All my love,

Sarah

I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Susan when she was in town visiting her daughter and grandaughter . We had a lot of laughs chatting when she came to the salon . I have sweet memory’s of our conversations . Her love for her family was very clear . I will always think of her during the holidays and fairy hair . Susan said “ we all need a little sparkle “. We both said it was magical! . She will be greatly missed ! 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷
