In memory of

Susan Bliley

October 4, 1942 -  August 26, 2023

She laughed, she loved, she lived and now she has left. Our Unique, Independent, Creative Mother has started upon a new adventure that we hope brings her much peace and happiness. Susan Barbara Kaye Bliley departed on August 26th, 2023. She valiantly fought cancer, advocated for herself with gumption, and beat the odds until her illness consumed her. Her children Bethany, Tiffany and Patrick (Claire) were with her in her final weeks and were often joined by her wonderful grandchildren, Adalyn Torres-Bliley, Logan Bliley-Beames and Alexander and Callum Bliley. Susan was laid to rest under a gorgeous old tree lit by vibrant sun
at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto on August 31st 2023 in the presence of her family. She danced in life, she danced at the hospital and we hope she is dancing now.
An empowering advocate for her clients, Susan helped so many in her career, as a nurse, a therapist and a volunteer. Her connections were wide from her beloved childhood home in New Jersey USA, her home away from home in Aruba and her home in Toronto. Seen cycling in all of these spots, Susan would explore and find treasure, learn about others and enjoy nature. She loved to be by the water whether a babbling brook, a roaring ocean or a calm lake. We would be remiss if we did not note that the world will be a blander place without her awesome cooking and beautiful bread!
Susan was predeceased by her father Philip Kaye; mother Rosalind Kaye; sister Heidi Lowell; brother Kenneth Kaye; and her beloved daughter Eliza Jane who died at birth (1973).
We have enjoyed hearing about all the wonderful connections in Susan’s life and encourage
you to share a story here that will honour her memory.

I laughed when I saw the picture of Susan and smiled as I read the obituary. I only reconnected with Susan during the last 5 years. A year ago when she told me about the pancreatic cancer I began calling every week. We connected over constipation problems and remedies. She called it “the Batterman curse.” We discussed movies, both of us being movie buffs and traveling. I planned to visit this fall. Sadly she didn’t make it. I will remember her fondly and stay connected to my new found family, her children and hopefully their children. Rest well and in peace, Susan.

My husband and I met Susan in Aruba, we both stayed at the same AirBNB. We hit it off immediately and I so enjoyed our conversations over a glass of wine. We had so much admiration for Susan as a single women riding her bike all over the island visiting with people, shopping or swimming in the ocean. Her outgoing personality served her well as she met people where ever she went. She always share great stories of her daily adventures. We will truly miss her in Aruba. I will be going to her favourite spot on the beach under the trees and toast to her. She was one of a kind! Rest in peace Susan. Our deepest condolences to her family.
