In memory of

Stoja Mirceva

January 1, 1926 -  February 22, 2022

Born in Oshima, Greece, Stoja aged 96, passed away after a stroke in Toronto on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. She was a courageous woman, whose love for her family managed to get her through many hardships. She survived a war, poverty, loss of a daughter and many other hardships while always maintaining a loving spirit. At age 60, she immigrated to Canada helping her family to have a better life, subsequently caring for her sick daughter Zoja and raising her granddaughters Irina and Natasha here. "Baba" had a hand in raising all her grandchildren and took pride and joy in her family, always.

She made magic in the kitchen with the little resources she had. In one of the housing complexes she lived in, she gave lessons to other Macedonian women on ethnic dishes and was a light in her community. She was an intelligent lady who spoke six different languages. She also prided herself and saw the value in being a wonderful homemaker who kept her home sparkling clean and loved while nurturing anyone who came through her door. Baba kept her kids well fed with scrumptious home cooked meals. Although Baba survived many tragic and traumatic life events, she always managed to maintain her dignity, values and morals.

She stood like a valiant shield for her granddaughter Irina that she raised from the time she was born. She loved holding and getting visits from her great grandson Jacob and singing her made up songs to him. One of the highlights of Baba’s life was that she got to travel to a warm destination in her 80's for the first time in her life. She was thrilled to walk on the beach in Miami.

She will be remembered by all as a loving wife, friend, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Survived by her daughter, Sophie Sopova, granddaughters Irina and Natasha Solarova and all her many other grandchildren and great- grandchildren she loved so very much. Predeceased by her daughter Zoja Solarova.

Visitation will take place at Pine Hills Funeral Centre (625 Birchmount Rd.) from 10-11am followed by the funeral at 11am. Funeral webcast will begin at 10:45am www.etouch.ca

Baba Stoya was a lovely, kind, and caring woman who I enjoyed caring for very much. She will be greatly missed and will always be a big part of everyone's life she touched. May she rest in peace.
