In memory of

Steve Young

May 5, 1933 -  November 16, 2024

In Memory of Steve Young.

On Saturday November 16, 2024, Steve Young passed away peacefully in Markham, Ontario.
Steve was born and raised in Pong Woo, Canton, China, the youngest son of Sic Que (Dave) and Soo Ding. He immigrated to Canada where he embraced a new life, and in 1957, married his beloved wife Roberta.

Under his father’s guidance, Steve worked long hours with his new bride, helping him to build a successful business in the heart of Toronto’s Forest Hill community, and start a new family. They each took great pride in bringing the best products to their small Eglinton Avenue shop, while spending the time to get to know their regular and loyal clientele. Their efforts would help to establish Dave Young Fruit Market as a top independent grocer in the city, making it synonymous with the highest quality produce and personalized service, for decades to come.

In retirement, Steve began the next chapter of his life. He enjoyed his time around the house, working in the garden, quick trips to Rama for blackjack with his buddy Bing, and spending time with his new love, Marie Young and his new extended family. Celebrations and holidays brought the best out of Steve, giving him quality time with his four children, Marie’s children, but in particular, the grandchildren, which brought a beam of light to his face. He will fondly be remembered by friends and family for his gentle and generous spirit, and for his love of family.

Steve was predeceased by his loving wife Roberta (February 25, 1983), and survived by his children: Alan, Webster, Selina (AJ) and Stacey.

A funeral to honour and celebrate Steve’s life will be held on Thursday November 28, 2024 at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto, Ontario, M4T 2V8.

Right now my Dad is playing Black Jack with many loving familiar faces ( hitting on hard 17) while enjoying his favorite simple dish: G17 Congee Queen BBQ duck thick vermicelli soup. I'm so happy that I got to share that meal with him recently. Rest in peace Dad, we all LOVE you ! Web

Dad, a father's love is forever, unconditional and irreplaceable. I missed you from the moment you left us. My heart is broken, but I will be strong. I know you are with family and friends that will take good care of you. I will never forget the moments we shared. I only wish that we had more time. Forever in my heart. I love you, Papa Bear

Sharing business interest with AJ Reid, and knowing the pain of losing a father, has moved me to register.

Much strength to the family

May it bring you all comfort knowing that he is at peace and with those he loved who went before him...it was a blessing to have him until his 91st year but, saying goodbye is never easy...my thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.
