I loved it when he used to come over and hold Ashley when she was a baby, and he said listen Ashley Charlotte there will come a time when you're old enough to choose whether or not you'll go by Ashley or Charlotte.

Stephen was a great friend for 57 years, an inspiration for his battle with cancer and a special force in making life better for those whose lives he touched with enthusiasm, grace and an immense generosity of spirit. His presence endures in my life.

We are so sorry to hear of Stephen’s passing. We need more, not less fine people like him. He was a great example of how to deal with adversity in life. His epic kindness was experienced by all who knew him. The world is a richer place because of Stephen. Rest In Peace,
Sandy and Dave

Sheilah Rogers (cousin)

Stephen was born when I was 9 years old so he has been part of my life since his first breath. My sister Leslie and Stephen's sister Allyson saw each other regularly as the families had only to cross the Detroit River between Windsor and Detroit to visit before the Hughes moved to Toronto. Stephen knocked my socks off from the beginning with his knowledge of car models, baseball teams, family lore and more. He also gave me a lasting nickname - Cheewah, which was his 2 year old version of Sheilah. My husband, Steve knew and loved him as well and they always talked music and baseball on our many phone calls. He will always be with us. Love, Sheilah
