It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stephanie Hoy Yan Wong, who peacefully left us on March 13, 2025, at the age of 32 at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Stephanie faced a courageous two-month battle with cancer, demonstrating remarkable strength and grace, and was surrounded by her loving family in her final moments.
Stephanie is survived by her beloved newborn son, Leonard, her devoted husband, Michael, her loving brother, Calvin, and her parents, Candice and KC, who will miss her dearly. She was also cherished by countless extended family members and friends.
Stephanie was born on June 29, 1992, at Women's College Hospital in Toronto. From a young age, she radiated warmth, kindness, and generosity. Thoughtful and deeply committed to her family, Stephanie touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Stephanie was known for her dedication and hardworking spirit. In high school, Stephanie excelled in sports, playing field hockey and rugby with fierce determination and strength. Her competitive spirit and fearlessness on the field were admired by her teammates and coaches alike. After graduating with a diploma in Police Foundations, Stephanie worked as a Restaurant Manager at her family’s restaurant in Thunder Bay and then at Copper Branch (Heartland).
She was a passionate K-Pop fan with a deep love for BTS. Her love of K-Dramas was equally strong, and she often shared this passion with her family and friends. She was an avid board game collector and player, she regularly hosted game nights with her cousins, filling the room with laughter and competitive spirit. Stephanie was also a dedicated foodie who loved exploring new restaurants and food trends, always eager to share her latest culinary discoveries with her family.
Stephanie’s greatest dream was to build a loving family with Michael. They married in September 2023, in an intimate ceremony surrounded by family. Their joy multiplied with the birth of their son Leonard in January 2025. Stephanie’s strength and resilience were unwavering as she faced her diagnosis with the hope of being there for Leo.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Elgin Mills Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by the service at 2:00 PM. A reception will be held at Golden Palace Banquet Hall at 4:00 PM. If you wish to attend, kindly RSVP and indicate the number of seats required to Calvin Wong at calvinmhwong93@gmail.com by Friday, March 21, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made via e-transfer or PayPal to Michael Tsang at michael_tsang611@hotmail.com. Envelopes will also be available on-site for those who wish to contribute. Your generosity will help support the family and establish a trust for Baby Leo.
Stephanie’s passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who knew and loved her. We ask that you remember her not for how her life ended, but for the love, joy, and kindness she shared with the world. Rest peacefully, dear Stephanie. Your light will forever shine in our hearts.
