In memory of
Stefan Casar
February 10, 1931 -
November 19, 2023
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved father, Stefan Casar, in the early morning of November 19, 2023 at Brampton Civic Hospital at the age of 92.
He was born on February 10, 1931 to Istvan and Erzsebet Csaszar in Lakos, Slovenia. He is predeceased by his wife Julia, sister Margaret, and leaves behind his son, Steve(Jeanine), daughters Margaret and Julie, grandson Adam, sisters Anne, Irene, and Elizabeth, and cousins Frank Gerics and John Andras.
He left his native Slovenia in October 1953 in search of a better life, married Julia in July 1954, arrived in Canada in June 1955, and settled in Toronto in July 1956. He would later move to Mississauga and finally to Brampton.
Being raised in dire poverty during the war, a hard work ethic was ingrained in our father that never left him his entire life. He never shied away from any job, and employers were always sad to see him leave, he was such a valued employee. He finished only two years of high school in his native country, then went into the army. He came to Canada unable to speak the language and with no skill sets, but was eager to work. Over the course of his life, he was employed in many different jobs including working in a copper factory, owning his own landscaping/snowploughing business, to eventually training to be a trailer mechanic, which he did for the rest of his working years. He also had a knack for fixing things and building new gadgets to fulfill some need.
His other love, besides his family, was gardening. He was a master at it, and had some epic gardens over the course of his life. And in these last years of his life, he would plant seeds indoors in February, nurse the seedlings until they could be transplanted outdoors in the spring, water and weed, and then wait for the ‘fruits’ of his labour.
Our father was devoted to his family and it always brought him great joy when the family could all be together. His life story was marked with much hardship, but also many incredible blessings, sustained by hard work and an unwavering perseverant spirit, right to the very end. We will miss our dear father terribly, but we are at peace, knowing he is no longer in any pain, and having professed his faith in the Lord Jesus, he lives in unending peace and joy with his Saviour.
“Love you forever Apu.”
