In memory of

Soultana Soumalias

May 6, 1927 -  March 14, 2021

We lost the brave and strong woman that made our beautiful lives possible. Soultana succumbed to her final breath on Sunday, March 14 at Scarborough Grace Hospital. Our dear mother and yiayia will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her children Tasia, Peter (Giorgina) and Bill; her grandchildren Tania (Chris), Stefan (Stacie), Yiannis (Ashley), Marissa, Alexandra and Paul; and her great grandchildren Cali, Mason, CJ and Andreas. Soultana was predeceased by her husband Yiannis, her son-in-law JJ and her brothers and sisters.

She was born in Kastoria, Greece, married in 1945, and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1957. Here, she used the skills she learned in her homeland in fur design and manufacturing and worked at various Toronto furriers from 1964 – 1988. From then on—and for as long as she could travel—she spent time in her beloved Greece looking after her apple orchards. At home in Toronto, she enjoyed tending to her garden (especially her magnificent dahlias and delicious pears), her beautiful grandchildren and making her signature pita from scratch.

Soultana was a proud and active member of the women’s auxiliary at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church. She taught us all to love our Greek traditions, which she upheld right until the end. We will carry them on, and always, with her in mind.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the visitation and the funeral services will be small and intimate. Unfortunately, attendance will be by invitation only. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Soultana’s memory to The Hellenic Home in Toronto at www.hellenichome.org.

Our deepest condolences to the whole family. Throughout our lives Thea Soultanitsa was a very special lady to our family. We share some very fond memories and I always admired how that generation of women raised such beautiful families with so many hardships in life. They were the strong role models to all of us. She is joining her loved ones in heaven and I know they are all having a tea party with pita, sweets and all their stories. Rest In Peace Thea Soultanitsa ❤️
