Dear Pao Pao (grandma),

Generations of women in our family persevered to lead me to where I am now, and you are evidence of that. I admire your tenacity, determination, and dedication towards those you love, which is clearly embodied in your children, and perhaps one day, in us, your grandchildren.

The world I grew up in is worlds apart from the one you knew when you were young, and it can be hard for me to overlook our differences. Yet, it is clear to me how much you had loved and cared for your family over your long and rich life.

I remember from my childhood your vinegar-braised pigs’ feet/ trotters and carefully peeled fruits as symbols of your affection.
