In memory of
Sorin Constantin Marinescu
July 1, 1943 -
April 15, 2021
The Marinescu family is saddened to announce the loss of Sorin, who passed away peacefully on April 15th, 2021 at North York General Hospital in his 77th year. Beloved Husband to Ioana Alice (nee. Iftode) for 51 wonderful years. Proud Father to Tudor and Father-in-law to Judy. Loving Brother-in-law to Sandu and Doina Iftode and Uncle to Alexandra Iftode. Sorin will also be dearly missed by his many family members, friends and his colleagues in Romania and Canada. Sorin is predeceased by his parents Sanda and Dan-Virgil who passed in 1977.
A sweet, gentle, and loving husband and father, Sorin devoted his life to two passions. Professionally, as an accomplished Architect in Romania, Sorin designed, executed, and was recognized for many significant buildings in Bucharest. Chief among these is the design of the Government Ministry buildings in Constitution Square (Piaţa ConstituţieI) which continue to serve as the place of operations for the Romanian Government, and also the backdrop to one of the main squares in Bucharest which frequently hosts concerts, New Year's celebrations, and various other events throughout the year.
In his personal life, Sorin was a devoted husband and father who placed the well-being and success of his family above all else. He decided to leave his successful position as a senior lead design architect at Project Bucharest Institute and member of the Romanian Union of Architects in 1991 in order to pursue the opportunity for a better life for his son, Tudor, in Canada. This would prove to be a significant sacrifice as he would be forced to leave behind his beloved Architecture position due to a lack of positions available in Canada during the recession of the 1990s. Unwavering, at 50 years of age, Sorin decided he must learn a new profession in order to support his family and realize the dreams with which he came to Canada. Obtaining the license of Financial Investment Advisor and working for Foster & Associates until his retirement, Sorin was able to once again support his family and allow them the opportunities he dreamt of.
His moments of great pride and accomplishment would come when Tudor met and wed Judy, whom he loved like a daughter, and when Tudor became a Director of Finance for WSP Canada Inc., realizing the very opportunities and success for which he had sacrificed a significant portion of his life.
