In memory of

Sophie Kolodziej

May 3, 1935 -  September 7, 2024

Died peacefully on September 7th, 2024 in her eighty-ninth year. Beloved wife to the late Karl for 45 years. Cherished mother to Teresa, Alex, Victor (Mandy), Edward (Lisa), and Stephen (Ann). Devoted Babcia to Michael (Karen), Jessica, Melissa, Andrea, Matthew and Justyn. Sophie had the joy of experiencing 2 great grandchildren, Karl and Kaius. She is survived by her sister Józia (Romek).

She is predeceased by her twin brother Stan and his wife Hala, her sister Hela, brothers Marion and Kazimierz, and her parents Agneiszka and Stanisław Studzinski. Together with being a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Sophie was a registered practical nurse, working at Baycrest Hospital in palliative care for 10 years.

Sophie was born in Woławka, Poland and as a young child was separated from her parents and older siblings during World War II. Her journey as a Polish refugee orphan is told by Fr. Lucjan Krolikowski in his book, Stolen Childhood. Another book, Polish Orphans of Tengeru, by Lynne Taylor rounds out her incredible story. For those interested, an overview of the Polish Siberian exile by Norman Davies is available on YouTube under the title: The Odyssey of the Anders Army.

Sophie will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her. Her strength, resilience and wisdom were an inspiration to her family and friends. May she forever rest in peace.

God Bless,

The Kolodziej Family

To our dearest Babcia/Prababcia

I feel so blessed and fortunate to have had such a loving person to be my grandmother. You have looked after me in so many ways, from childhood to adulthood, and I am forever grateful to you. There are so many memories we shared; memories that I am revisiting now, and that I will visit again. They put a smile on my face and a warmth in my heart.

Thank you so much for being a incredible grandmother to all your grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We will forever remember your stories, delightful sense of humour, and wisdom.

May God bless you and always keep you in the palm of his hand.

Love,

Michael, Karen, Karl & Kaius

Wanda: A proud and resilient woman, Zosia cared for her family and her friends with all her heart. She was always available for a chat or a good laugh. We loved to talk about Africa, our incredible journey and our lives here in Canada. I will miss her and think of her often. Rest in peace, my friend.
